Going into this race I felt very comfortable in the driver’s seat. I felt confident in my prep on the car and was ready to do my best at this race. My co-driver @parker_darland and I were in the second row off the start.
We had a solid start, going into turn one in 2nd, right behind @brucekennedy327. 3rd turn in on the infield, Bruce pulled off to the berm with an issue. We tried to avoid hitting them and meanwhile someone from behind me hit me and we ended up flipping the car onto its side. After everyone had passed we got the car flipped back onto its wheels and got going again.
Our first 3 laps were flawless. We had a great pace working our way up into 4th on corrected time. On lap 4 we were supposed to pit for fuel. Both Parker and I thought we could make another lap before fueling seeing 4 bars of fuel left. After running through the infield, we had already dropped 2 bars of fuel. I kept a slow pace the rest of the lap trying to get the car to the pits for refueling. 1/2 a mile from the pits I lost all throttle and we ran out of gas. Luckily our crew got a fuel jug out to us to get us on our last lap. We had dropped 13 positions and just wanted to finish. I put the skinny pedal to the floor on the final lap passing back a few people and we came out with a 12th place finish.
I would like to thank my amazing Co-Driver and Pit Chief @parker__darland and @ulysses_munguia. I couldn’t have done this at all without them. I’d also like to thank my mom for driving down from Colorado with me to come help out the team. I’d also like to give a special thank you to @dustinbattleaxejones and the whole @deman_racing team for helping us pit and helping us with all the commotion at this race! I’d also like to thank all my sponsors for helping out and supporting our program!
